Reading Through The New Testament In A Week.....

This week I decided to try and read through the New Testament.  I have read it slowly many times - but I woke up Friday morning and just wanted to have it all in my head at once. Broken down it means that I have roughly 40 pages from my ESV Cross Reference to cover each day. Time seven it will bring me to the end of Revelation next Friday  night.

So far I have stayed on task - day one complete.  I was surprised how much was totally familiar in the books of Mark and Luke and how hard it was to keep going without pondering and praying over every other sentence.

Anyone want to join me in a one week read-through?  I will go back to my regular reading schedule next week - but for some reason it feels right to take it all in at once first.

Wow! What a great goal! How long do you find it takes to read that much in one day? (I'm a pretty quick reader.)

Maybe I could break it up into two times/day: morning and night.

Something to thing about.

:) :) :)

Wow, I don't know if I could do it! I can read a novel that I've never read before all in one night, but I skip all the descriptive parts. :-) But I find it hard to read more than ten or twenty pages of Scripture at one setting, and I think it is in part because I want to "stop and ponder" and in part because I've read it so many times. One of my college profs reads the NT through 4 times a year and the OT 2 times a year, and I would like to do that. 40 pages a night. I want to do it, but am not too confident about my commitment level. We'll see. If I can read 40 tonight, I'll try and do it again tomorrow night, and we'll see how it goes from there. Great idea! :-) May it go well for you.

Well, I only made it 22 pages, but they were good pages. :-)

I started with Matthew and chose The Message, which I think helped me get a little further than I might have. I'm normally an NIV 1984 fan but for reading big chunks for devotional reasons, I like a paraphrase. I also appreciate the page-wide (rather than column-wide) formatting in The Message and the absence of verse numbers for large sections at a time. Anyway, it was wonderful to read such a big chunk at once, and I'll try again tonight. Maybe it will take me two weeks instead of one to get through. :-)

How did your effort go?

Rod Parsley has out a kwick scan Bible. It is KJV but very easy reading. It reads just like reading a story book. I have not read through in a week but in a month, ten chapters a day. What a blessing.
