My friend shared this link to 4paws for disability today - I liked what I saw there. On the website they are pretty specific on how their dogs are trained to assist persons with FASD's to deal with sensory, emotional and safety issues and it made sense.
Unfortunately, at this point I doubt that we are being led to add a working dog to our family structure due to allergies and the need for dogs to be person specific. Though (in my crazy paperwork loving world)it might be fun just to apply - do you know you need a prescription for a dog? I would love to ask our primary doctor to write that one - it would send her into fits of laughter. Of course, long ago, she offered to write me one that went "One glass red wine daily at 5:00pm repeat as needed." Maybe some of you are a little more sober minded and will feel led to add a helper to your FASD parenting program.

We added a service dog for GB to our family over two years ago. My husband was skeptical, but it has worked out great. You are right, though, the dog is a normal dog for everybody but GB. You would need a lot of them!
I have considered this for my son. We have trained on of our dogs to sit right next to him during school time. It helps him a lot. I imagine a dog that was trained by a professional would be amazing.

Since our little one with suspected FAE is TERRIFIED of animals, I don't think we'll be considering this any time soon. ;)
I looked into this program a few years ago. I cannot add fundraising $13,000 onto my plate.
I haven't visited your blog for awhile- welcome back to MN!!
I'd love to meet you someday! I am in Plymouth.
