| Laughter examining one of the last Picturing America prints..... |
In our homeschool this year we used two free resources which added greatly to our regular study of modern American history. The first was offered by the NEH - a study in the art history of America called
Picturing America. It took us two years to work through the entire series but it was well worth the time we invested. The second resource was a sequential American history DVD set called
The Story of Us, offered for free through the History Channel. Though there were portions of both which we didn't agree with personally, over all they were wonderful resources and helped us through this tough year of schooling in transition.

Thank you! We are revisiting the American REvolution this year, but my kids are ready to move on to put things in the larger picture, and I can't wait to try these.
One thing my kids LOVED this past year was the Liberty's Kids cartoons available through Netflix instant downloads. They are the quality of Sat. morning cartoons, so at first I was not sure they would be all that great, but only a few episodes into the series I realized how many excellent topics were being packed into each episode, and even the things that are not historically correct (like one of the main characters is a girl, and she often ends up in places were should would not have IRL) become excellent starting points for further discussion.
My kids are already begging to start the series over. I'm making them wait till the end of summer so we can focus on a few other things first! : )
