Barb and I were at Bethlehem and adopting special FASD kids at the same time in the early 2000's. I love (and hate) to see that our lives are on such similar paths. Yes - it's hard to believe what your heart is telling you (that something is very wrong) when the voices around you are saying the opposite (that there is no real problem.) Especially when you wish with all your heart the voices were right.....
